The first step in the party wall process is for the person planning the work to notify the neighbouring property owners who may be affected.
Under the Party Wall Act, there are three main types of work:
This includes things like adding steel beams for an extension or raising the height of a party wall for a loft conversion, or removing a chimney breast connected to the shared wall.
This applies when digging occurs within 3.0 meters of a neighbouring structure and goes deeper than its foundation. If the excavation is very deep, such as for piled foundations, the required distance extends to 6.0 meters.
This includes building a new wall on or along the boundary line between two properties, like a rear extension or a new garden wall.
Our party wall surveyors have the technical and legal knowledge to ensure neighbours are notified properly and responses are handled effectively.
